Kicking Off National Autism Awareness Month
It’s officially Autism Awareness Month! In general, autism organizations around the world celebrate this month with unique fundraising and awareness-raising events. At BB360, we have chosen to fundraise and bring awareness to Autism via the launch of our Kickstarter Campaign. Specifically, our campaign is aimed at improving the ball skills of individuals with special needs, including those who have been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, with affordability and accessibility.
Many have asked us, “why improve ball skills?” Since we are program dedicated to improving the physical skills of individuals with special needs, we isolated ball skills as a pivotal area to improve. We noticed that many of our athletes lacked the fundamental ability to use balls in play on the playground and in sports. This negatively impacted them, keeping them alienated from friends and social opportunities, as well as wreaking havoc on their self-confidence. Given our expertise and skill set, we know that practicing skills specifically with intent and fun lead to big change over time. This is the reason why we created our Ball Skills Classes. We have seen dramatic changes in our athletes and have heard wonderful success stories from parents where arming our athletes with good foundational skills led to other improvements (social, emotional, and psychological).
The BB360 Ball Skills Bag, spotlighted in our Kickstarter Campaign, is based on our successful Ball Skills Classes. We made this bag to be able to help families all around the world who have a child with autism. We know that being able to throw, catch, and kick a ball are just small pieces of the puzzle, but we are dedicated to do our part in improving the independence and inclusion of individuals with special needs.
