Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and we at BB360 want to close out the month by celebrating not only our athletes with Down Syndrome, but all people with Down Syndrome. As we do regularly at BB360, we celebrate abilities (vs. disabilities) and accomplishments (see above photo of Coach AB and Athlete Chris at the Gladiator Rock and Run Pasadena). We get to witness first-hand, the eagerness, joy, and hard work each of our athletes puts in each and every workout.

Many of our athletes with Down Syndrome began our program fearful of moving through rope ladders placed on the ground, stepping up onto blocks, and jumping with two feet, and we see and hear from their parents how these fears limit them in the real world. Eventually, we get to see the hard work in our program pay off. We have seen transformations of many of our athletes with Down Syndrome who started fearful and are now in sporting activities with peers and competing in the special olympics. More importantly, we have seen and heard from parents how the improvement of physical skills influence the building of self-confidence and self-esteem.

We know that one’s confidence in the body leads to confidence in navigating the real-world, no matter who you are, and we are thrilled that our athletes are experiencing this first-hand. We find ourselves equally proud and humbled by our exceptional athletes. We feel honored that we get to support our athletes in moving their bodies more masterfully while holding their heads up high with more confidence.
