The Art of Receiving

In our last post, we spoke about the two-way street of giving and shared with you what we receive from the gifts that we give to our athletes in the BB360 program. Interestingly, most people feel more comfortable when they give vs. when they receive, even though a “receiver” is needed when someone “gives.” This dynamic exchange of giver and receiver is especially abundant during this time of year. While there are numerous messages promoting giving that surround us, there isn’t much encouragement or thought to being a gracious receiver. We know that this may be a weird concept, but we feel that it’s an important one if the true spirit of giving is to be promoted. If you think about it, no one should just give, give, and give. It is also essential to receive. During this holiday season, try these receiving exercises to hone in on your art of receiving: 1) Accept all compliments and allow the giver to freely give (whether it’s material or a compliment), 2) Try to recognize complaining and turn it into gratitude for the gift given, and 3) Allow yourself to be imperfect and thus, human. Ultimately, it is both giving and receiving that strengthens our relationships with each other. We wish you happy giving and receiving this holiday season!
