Crossing Midline @ BB360 and Why It’s Important

At BB360, we focus on something called crossing midline. While lots of professionals have “poopooed” crossing midline as an important skill, we have experienced first hand why it’s important to facilitate. Simply put, crossing midline is the ability to move our hands, feet, and eyes not only together, but to the other side of the body. We take this skill for granted, but in real-time, this skill is really hard for our athletes. This impacts their ability play on the playground, perform daily activities, and read and write. In sum, it negatively impacts their quality of life.

Every BB360 class incorporates a fun way to promote crossing midline, thus building new pathways in the brain which serve as building blocks for important daily tasks. One way we do this is by doing “cross body high fives” (see photo). We partner up, face each other, and make it fun by changing pacing, height, and the width of our wingspan. By keeping it fun, we not only build new neural pathways/reinforce new neural pathways, we also promote socialization and laughs.
